2011 - First lesson of the Year!

* to be confirmed, waiting for the authorisation to give lessons in the park*

Dear all!

Here we go! We are back for a new skating season! The inline skating beginner lessons are starting back this year from Sunday the 15th of May onwards! They will take place every week ends, on either Saturday of Sunday all the way to the middle of June. Each lesson is around an hour long and a maximum of 10 participant can take part in it. Don't worry, if more than 10 participants want to take part, I'll just add another lesson on the day.

Now few things you first need to know in order to take part in the lessons:

1) You need your own pair of skates and a FULL set of protection gear (this is essential), that is to say:

* Knee pads

* Elbow pads

* Wrist guards

* A helmet (skate or cycle helmet are both fine).

* + a water bottle for rehydration!

If you are looking for advice about equipment just check this section.

2) You need to first book your place by sending me an email at: rideandroll@gmail.com

3) On the day of the lesson you will need to sign a disclaimer that releases me from any responsibilities in case an accident occurs. Just so you know, this has never happened for the past 5 years I have been giving lessons.

4) Please if you say you are coming show up on the day! Thank you!

5) Oh, and don't forget your smile ;-)

As well:

Lessons will take place on either Saturdays or Sundays, according to the events which are organised on the day in the park (I'll try to avoid the big ones where the spot the lessons usually take place is closed)

If you are walking from the main entrance of the Park (south east entrance) to the spot for the lesson, it can take up to 25/30 minutes to get there, so be aware of this!

The place of the lesson can be found on this link. It is a safe path where no cars are allowed. It is situated right beside the entrance of the presidential house.

In case the weather is bad in the morning of the lesson, I will post a message on the website (www.rideandroll.eu) under the lesson section to let you know if the lesson is taking place or not. So make sure you check it before coming to the park!

So let's start!

The first lesson will take place at 2pm on Sunday the 15th and will consider in learning the following:

Level 1 beginner lesson:

* A bit of theory

* How to stand up

* V-stance (to stand correctly)

* Stride I (to balance in motion)

* Scissor position (the most important skating position)

* Break Stop (how to break using the heel break)

So now all you need to do is to send me an email, get your gear together, and I'll see you soon on wheels!

Yours,

Julien

Fifth lesson of the year - 02/05/10

The fifth inline skating beginner session of the year will take place in Phoenix park on Sunday the 2nd of May (if the weather permits). The good news for you guys is that it will be free of charge. Tipping is at your entire diescretion. However, you will still need to have ALL the required material if you want to take part in the lesson on the day. These are:

* Your own pair of skate with a heel brake
* Knee pads
* Elbow pads
* Wrist guards
* A helmet (skate or cycle helmet are both fine).
* A water bottle for rehydration!

And just so you all know, this will be the LAST lesson before a while, since I will be busy all other week ends in May, and I am away for most of the Summer. Therefore the next lesson after this Sunday will certainly take place in the end of August/beginning of September. However, it does not mean you should stop skating! Feel free to check the Facebook Page to get info from the sakters themselves who organise skates and slalom sessions.

The lesson will take place in Phoenix Park, beside the entrance to the Presidential House.

Therefore this time, the lesson will be a little less formal. Meaning that:
* I will teach from 2 to 5pm non stop the 3 different levels.
* From 2 to 3pm I will teach the Level 1 techniques, from 3 to 4pm the Level 2 techniques, and from 4 to 5pm the Level 3 techniques.
* You do not have to send a confirmation email, you can show up anytime you want, come ask me questions and skate around with the other skaters.

Here is what I will aim to cover on the day:

Level 1 :

* How to stand up
* V-stance (to stand correctly)
* Stride I (to balance in motion)
* Scissor position (the most important skating position)
* Break Stop (how to break using the heel break)

Level 2 :

* Stride II (more advanced skating move)
* Swizzle (how to avoid small obstacles)
* A-Turn (how to turn)
* Grass stop
* First step of the "T-break" (to break wihout the "heal break")

Level 3 :

* V-Stop (to stop in a more efficient and stylish way)
* T-break (to break more efficiently without the "heal break")
* Parralel Turn (to turn more efficiently than with the A-turn)
* First step to the crossover turn (to turn without loosing speed)

So the only thing you will to do once you arrive at the spot will be to make sure you have all your gears properly on and that you sign the sheet beside the Tip box near the guys who will be practicing slalom.

Also, check out this page on Sunday morning, in case of bad weather, to know if the lesson is still on or not!
